In keeping with the bylaws and policies of the Georgia Board of Regents, the University Senate exercises legislative functions dealing with the general educational policy of Georgia State University, the discipline of students, and all other student activities and affairs, including all matters where the university president determines there is a need for uniform policy throughout the university. The intent of the University System of Georgia Staff Council is to advance the mission of the system as a whole and to promote and foster the welfare of system staff, in non-collective bargaining issues, through the combined creativity of staff representatives from system institutions.
